I've lived in basically the same geographic area for 25 years, and I can't remember a winter when it snowed as much as it has in the past few months. Last night we got 11.5 inches, with even more expected to fall later tonight. I'm pretty sure last year we got around 6 inches the entire winter!
Whenever a big storm hits, you'll hear people grumbling about being stuck in their houses, shoveling snow, and not being able to get to work. If you go to the grocery store, you'll be surrounded by a mob of people with carts full of bottled water who seem to think it's the end of the world. The fluffy white stuff that falls from the sky seems to bring about feelings of angst and paranoia in the general public.
Not me. I've always treated a snow day like I did when I was a kid... a gift. A glorious, unexpected day off. A completely unmapped day to do with whatever I please. It may not be the day to go out and conquer the world, but it's the perfect day to curl up with a cup of tea and do some dreaming, scheming, and planning for the future.
Sure, you're an adult now and you'll still have to dig out your car, adjust travel plans, and you might get a little cabin fever. But why not try looking at the snow through the eyes of your 10 year old self, when the words "snow day" were music to your little ears? I guarantee it will make your day a heck of a lot better!
