I'm a little late posting this weeks creations. I've been so busy planning for my trip (less than a week away!)... but better late than never!
MONDAY
Today I tested out some Impossible instant film with one of my vintage Polaroid cameras. I actually got the film as a Christmas gift a couple years ago and never got around to trying it out. Impossible films are still somewhat experimental and the results can be unpredictable. The colors here didn't come out as vivid as I'd hoped, but it could be a result of letting the film sit unused for so long. Either way, I like playing with instant film even if just for the nostalgia factor.

TUESDAY
Happy Mardi Gras!
Played around with some abstract digital photography using some of the colorful beads I picked up over the weekend. Not exactly fine art... but making patterns with light and color always intrigues me, and it's been fun to get back to the camera a little bit.

WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY
On Wednesday I did the lettering for this piece, and on Thursday I filled it in with the roses and color. I forgot to take a picture before I added onto it, so you'll just have to trust that I really did make art on both days. Scout's honor!
I'm happy with how this turned out. It's French, it's cute, and I think my lettering skills are getting a bit better as I continue to practice.

FRIDAY
More pattern play today! I just painted some quick freestyle strokes in watercolor, then scanned them in and created this chevron pattern.
I have no clue what (if anything) I might do with the patterns I'm creating, but I like making them. It's a fun challenge to get everything to match up in a repeat pattern, and it always gives me a sense of satisfaction when I'm finished, even when it's something as simple as this.

SATURDAY
It's the weekend, so of course I procrastinated on MAE-ing again. I ended up with (another) funny blind contour drawing of an armchair. Can you tell it's an armchair? Maybe not, but that's what drawing blind is all about. I did this one on a piece of watercolor paper I'd randomly dripped/painted on a few days prior, which I think makes it a little more interesting to look at.
I actually like things like this that have an element of spontaneity to them. I'm usually a bit of a control freak, so being able to let go and do something random makes me feel good.

SUNDAY
Time to experiment... and move into the third dimension! 3-D art is terrifying to me. How the heck do you make something look decent from every angle in space? Just give me a piece of paper and a pencil and I'll be fine.
My parents got me this weird new art toy called the 3Doodler for Christmas, but it didn't get delivered until a couple weeks ago so this was the first chance I'd had to try it. It's basically a giant pen that you plug in, and it allows you to do 3-D "drawings" in tubes of plastic. Crazy, I know! The thing was hard to control and I had no idea what I was doing, but I ended up with a tiny little doodle/sculpture of my puglet (and a nice green curlicue for him to stand near). I made a bunch of other weird abstract/hideous things, which I won't make you look at. I feel like this thing has some possibilities if I can figure out how to control it. More to come!
