I made it through my first week of making art every day!
I think, overall, it was a success. Some days I felt inspired and sat down for an hour or two to draw and paint. Other days I barely squeezed in a two-minute sketch. I like some of the stuff I made, and I think some of it is pretty bad (but I'm trying not to judge myself too harshly since the point of the exercise is to MAKE, regardless of the quality of the finished product). The weekends were the hardest, so I'll have to plan better for that in the future. Here's what I did during week one.

MONDAY
I worked on some writing for a piece I've had in mind for a little while. I'm finding that I really enjoy hand lettering, and I'm happy with how this turned out. The quote is from the poem "The Old Astronomer to His Pupil" by Sarah Williams.

TUESDAY
I was inspired by vintage botanical illustrations and decided to paint a poppy ("coquelicot" in French). I am new to working with watercolors so this was a fun kind of experiment, and I don't think the results are too bad. You'll probably see more botanical illustrations from me soon, because they are pretty and you can finish a flower in one sitting!

WEDNESDAY
Scanned in my lettering from Monday and a watercolor background I painted a while ago and worked on completing the composition. I like this a lot, and might even pin it up on my inspiration board.

THURSDAY
Fashion week was wrapping up in NY and kicking off in London, so I looked to the runway for inspiration. Not everyone knows this about me, but I went to FIT for fashion design after finishing my Bachelor's Degree. I was always more interested in illustrating fashion than actually constructing clothes. I'm definitely a little rusty, but I think this Miu Miu girl is cute enough considering I'm so out of practice.

FRIDAY
The weekend is here! I got lazy and barely managed to squeeze in this blind contour of my husband between dinner and a movie. Even if you don't consider yourself any kind of artist, you should try doing a blind contour drawing sometime. They're fun and the results can be surprisingly good and/or hilarious. Just pick up a pen and paper, and draw your subject using one continuous line - WITHOUT EVER LOOKING AT THE PAPER!
P.S. I swear my husband's head is not this big in real life.

SATURDAY
Another lazy day. This doesn't qualify as "art" per se, but today I filled in a page from my "Doodle Paris" book - a fun little sketch book with prompts on what to draw (AKA a coloring book for adults). So yeah, today I picked up a pen and filled a page with skulls and bones.

SUNDAY
Sticking with the line drawing theme, I made this little hairstyle sketch. I don't have much to say about it, except that it was kind of nice to just draw a bunch of lines on a page and leave it at that. I don't think it's hideous.

BONUS! Just for fun, here are some blind contour drawings I did on my iPad of my pug, Elmer. I don't remember which day this was, so I'm counting it as extra credit!
