When the idea for this blog/project first came to mind, I knew I wanted travel to be a part of it. Preferably international travel. Specifically in Paris.
I’m looking for inspiration, after all, and what better place to find it than the city that served as muse for the likes of Fitzgerald and Hemingway, Matisse and Picasso, Edith Piaf and Coco Chanel?
But who was I kidding… I only had three months til my 30th birthday. How could I, known to my loved ones as a compulsive over-planner, possibly get a trip together on such short notice? And what would I even do once I was there, all by myself in a foreign city?
When I meekly brought up the idea to my husband, I expected (hoped?) that he would say it was impossible, but instead he jumped on board immediately, enthusiastically suggesting things I could do and emailing me apartments for rent.
(Did I mention how awesome my husband is? My husband is awesome.)
So it became real. I began stalking airline prices and saving every penny I could, even selling off some of my belongings to fund my inspiration trip. Now came the biggest surprise of all. After mentioning my trip in passing to my parents, I got a casual email from my mom:
“Hey - did you have your heart set on going to Paris alone or would you like company?”
Company? As in, my mom wants to come to Paris with me?! My parents travel frequently, but never outside of North America and never separately. Nonetheless, my mom and I had always talked and daydreamed about exploring Paris together (the shopping, the desserts… the wine!)
So now not only am I going to Paris before I turn 30, but my mom is coming with me for a week!
(Did I mention how awesome my family is? My family is awesome.)
Mark your calendars, folks – the great Parisian adventure begins March 18th. My maman will be joining me for the first week, and then I’ll be staying until April 3rd to continue my crazy quest for creative inspiration. I plan on blogging throughout my trip, so stay tuned to see where this thing takes me...
